The Great Lakes Pastel Society (GLPS) offers instructive activities and exhibit opportunities to assist our members in their artistic and professional growth. We seek to create a fellowship of pastel artists for the betterment of our organization, the artists, and the pastel medium.
Members are accepted to the Great Lakes Pastel Society by their love of pastel. We are a nonjuried organization. Dues are established by the membership and are paid once a year in January.
Our bimonthly e-newsletter "Purely Pastel", helps to inform members of activities, member achievements, area workshops, and upcoming shows and events. Members may submit featured articles and other information of interest to our general membership.
The GLPS board of directors is elected by the members at the annual meeting. The board meets quarterly to review and plan the organizations business and activities. The annual Membership meeting is open to all members each fall.
The organization holds a bi-annual Pastel Convention in the state of Michigan to promote the pastel medium and offer education and networking opportunities for anyone interested in the medium. The organization also hosts and collaborates with other organizations to host educational programs and en plein air painting sessions throughout the state.
The GLPS hosts an annual pastel exhibition. These exhibitions are held at various museums and art venues throughout the state. The exhibitions alternate by year between our regional "members only" juried show and our national juried show. Membership in the GLPS also gives access to entry into shows hosted by The International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) and to the bi-annual IAPS Convention.
We also initiated and direct a slide exchange program with other pastel groups affiliated with IAPS. Pastel societies from around the world participate and groups enjoy viewing artwork created by talented pastelists from other areas.
The GLPS is also pleased to have four honorary directors, as selected by the board. These include Larry Blovits, Doug Dawson, Carole Katchen, and Urania Christy Tarbet, all Master Pastelists as designated by the Pastel Society of America.
The Great Lakes Pastel Society would like to invite you to become a member.
