Artist Statement -
The tactile quality of working with pastel offers a rewarding experience for me. I love the direct contact with the paper -the continuous mark making. Pastels allow me to mix and combine an infinite variety of colors and incorporate spontaneous highlights that give the work a subtle “charge”. As an artist, I am constantly excited by the process . Painting the human form, particularly portraiture, is a collaborative exchange between the artist and sitter. This connection gives my work realism as I observe and react to the sitter’s changing expressions as the painting evolves. I continually develop my ability to “see” and not just “look”. The knowledge and love of art history has informed and enhanced my work. My M.F.A. and M.B.A. have enabled me to teach at the University level . Encouraged by acceptance in national Juried shows, my current focus is on representational figure work and portraits with deeper psychological resonance.
