by William Mannion Artist Statement - I have always loved to draw. It is probably why a pastel pencil or pastel stick in my hand making direct contact with the painting surface to make art is my favorite means of expression. While plein air can and has been rewarding, I am drawn to portraiture and figurative imagery. I find unconscious factors help shape the work. My intention is to represent the extraordinary beauty in ordinary people which becomes a blending of efforts, both sitter and artist.
